This weekend Skytop is happy to welcome the Concours d’ Elegance, one of the most prestigious collector car shows in the
country. After taking a hiatus in 2010 to reassess its future, the Concours decided it needed a new venue. Skytop was the perfect fit! Just read what Edward Newcomb, the event organizer, had to say.
“We needed a site that was a destination venue, a place where people would go ‘wow, I’ve got to go there.’ Skytop Lodge has that quality. As you drive up, you go past this huge, beautiful lake. Then you see the hotel, which sits up on a hill like something out of The Great Gatsby. It’s not only impressive, but the staff is also extremely accommodating and professional.” Skytop’s chateau-like setting was one reason for the move. Another was the amenities. “There’s a lot of synergy up there, with a lot more recreational opportunities, and places like Camelback Mountain Resort and Pocono Raceway,” Newcomb added.
Unlike other prestigious shows where the cars are just on display, this event gives you the chance to actually hear, see, and smell them in action. Each car is driven before a stand of bleachers so spectators can watch the cars and learn why it might be rare or historically significant. Cars range from a 1903 Stanley Steam Car to a 2011 Porsched GT2 RS.
