Skytop goes to the Dogs! Dog Sledding is back at Skytop Lodge
Back in the 1930’s dog sledding was all the rage in the Poconos as many of the area’s resorts and lodges would race their dog teams against won another. It was a great winter event for guests and locals alike.
This winter Skytop is bringing back the sled dogs and has announced dog sledding will be on queue for winter 09’ and beyond. Twenty-four huskies will be on site at Skytop Lodge and will be housing the dogs year-round in partner with Snow Caps Sled Dogs, who will oversee the program.
Guests will have the opportunity to watch the dogs be hooked up to the sleds in their harnesses and ride in the basket. Additionally guest can also learn the mushing commands and actually drive the sled, a rare travel experience, indeed. The course is a 1.5 mile loop and for family members that may not want to ride with the dogs they can be driven in front of the dog sled on a low-emission snow mobile. This provides a great opportunity to snap action-packed photos as the dogs and participating family members are in play.
Skytop will offer dog sledding annually, as these dogs need to be exercised year-round. Winter snow sleds easily turn into sleds with wheels in the spring, summer and fall months. Enjoy dog sledding year round and to learn more about kennel tours visit www.skytop.com.

We were introduced to the dogs and dog sledding at Skytop a little over a week ago. Can’t wait to go for a ride this winter. Where else can you try something like this, other than Skytop! You and your kids will love it.
Do you still have the dog sleds? I’m thinking of visiting end of Feb or early March. What is the cost for a family of 4 and availability? Mike we sure do we will have them year-round as these dogs need exercise come snow, rain or sunshine. Come on before the snow melts.
